How to maintain leather work gloves

2025-03-14

Congratulations on choosing high quality working leather glovesfrom SONICE! To ensure that your Gloves last for a long time, here are five key tips to help you care for and maintain them.

1.Avoid prolonged exposure to harsh environments

Although SONICE's leather cut and impact resistant gloves are strong and durable, minimising their exposure to extreme conditions is key to their longevity. The natural oils in leather help to protect the fibres, the lack of which can cause the gloves to dry out, crack or flake. Avoid exposing your gloves to extreme temperatures (hot or cold), UV exposure and excessive water. Our FZ04Leather Gloves are pre-treated with odourless fish oil to make them waterproof and tough enough for all kinds of harsh environments, but they still need to be kept away from the heat of a direct flame.

2.Keeping it clean

Just as you need a break after a long day's work, your gloves need proper cleaning and care.
a.Wipe your gloves with a clean, dry rag.
b.Mix cold water with saddle soap or a mild detergent and wipe the leather with a damp cloth.
c.Repeat the wash and wipe off any soap residue with water.
d.Lay the gloves flat in a cool place to dry and wear them half-dry to regain their shape.
e.When completely dry, condition with leather wax or oil.
f.Avoid wringing or drying in direct sunlight to prevent deformation or shrinkage of the leather as it dries out.

3.Ensure gloves are dry

Even if you do not wash your gloves, it is important to ensure that they are completely dry inside. Sweat and rain can damage gloves and lead to rotting. If the gloves get wet, turn them over or use a hair dryer on low to speed up the drying process.

4.Re-treat gloves regularly

SONICE gloves have been treated with odourless fish oil, but it is recommended that they are re-treated every few months depending on the frequency of use. You can condition your gloves with leather wax, vegetable oil, coconut oil or odourless fish oil. Simply add a little care product to a clean cloth, gently massage it into the surface of the glove and wipe off any excess.

5.Proper Storage

When storing gloves, choose a cool, dry place protected from light to prevent the leather from deteriorating due to environmental factors.
